Located in the Churchland residentual section of Portsmouth, Gomley Chesed could be called the mother synagogue of the Jewish community.  It has a long list of families who have been part of the congregation for several generations.  The synagogue offers morning minyon on Sunday, Monday and Thursdays in addition to Shabbot, Festival and Holiday services.  Gomley Chesed welcomes new families or individuals to the community by offering free membership for the first year and discounted memberships on a continuing basis.  Religious school is held in partnership with Temple Sinai with free tuition thanks to a grant from the Tidewater Jewish Foundation.  Family life programs are offered throughout the year.  Gomley Chesed hosts the Toras Chaim School on their premises and manages their own cemetery in partnership with the Simon Jewish Community Center.
