Welcome to Hillel!

Hillel is a student organization created to welcome Jewish college students in intellectual, spiritual and social growth. Hillel helps students find a balance in being distinctively Jewish and universally human by encouraging them to pursue tzedek (social justice), tikkun olam (repairing the world) and Jewish learning, and to support Israel and the global Jewish peoplehood.

Hillel is a student driven service and social organization, on the campus of Old Dominion University. Hillel provides an opportunity for Jewish students, of all denominations, to come together for Jewish holidays and Shabbat, community work and fun.

Activities include bi-weekly “power hour” lunch programs, “Shabbat in the City” which includes dinner and services rotating between reform and conservative synagogues, community service opportunities, holiday celebrations and observances, plus field trips and Shabbatons with other Virginia campuses.

Who participates in Hillel?

Hillel is open to Jewish Undergraduates and Graduates at Old Dominion University, yet it is also inclusive to non-Jewish students, who have a desire to learn more and be part of a Jewish student union.

Congratulations Freshman on your acceptance to Old Dominion! Hillel welcomes you to the ODU community. To learn more about Jewish Life at ODU and meet students and staff from Hillel, contact Lindsey Aftel, 321-2329 or laftel@simonfamilyj.org for more information.
