Teachers’ Awards for Excellence in Holocaust Education

 

The Holocaust Commission of the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater wishes to honor teachers in Hampton Roads public or private schools who have demonstrated excellence in Holocaust education.

 

v  Recipients of some awards will receive a full scholarship, hotel accommodations, and transportation to attend the Belfer Conference at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.

 

v  Recipients of some awards will receive a full scholarship and hotel accommodations to attend the Teacher Education Institute at the Virginia Holocaust Museum in Richmond, Virginia.

 

v  Bus transportation to the Virginia Holocaust Museum in Richmond, Virginia, is also provided for all recipients and their classes. 

 

If you have had the opportunity to teach the lessons of the Holocaust, we encourage you to apply.

I.       Please explain why you teach the Holocaust.  What are your goals and how do you measure whether you are achieving them?

 

II.    Please submit a general outline (maximum of 1 typewritten page) that you have prepared for teaching the Holocaust.

 

III.  Have you worked with other teachers in developing an interdisciplinary unit on the Holocaust?  If so, please elaborate.

 

IV. If you have participated in a Holocaust conference for educators, please explain how it has helped you teach the lessons of the Holocaust.

 

V.    Please include on a cover page your name, school, grade level, position, number of years teaching, address, email, and phone number.
